Guo Haiqiang (b. 1980, Shannxi, China) graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts and currently focuses primarily on easel painting. His artistic practice explores the boundaries between sculptural and painterly languages, seeking to shape his inner spiritual world through the medium of painting. In recent years, Guo has adopted plein air painting as his primary method. In response to rapid shifts in cultural contexts and artistic concepts, his approach reflects a resonance with the traditional Chinese epistemological idea of gewu (the investigation of things). Rejecting contemporary technology as much as possible, he relies solely on direct observation with the naked eye—internalizing visual experience and transforming the material world into a simplified, tranquil inner world through his art. Guo Haiqiang’s solo exhibitions include:“Painting Mountains”(MG artspace, Beijing,2024); "Out of the Mountains" (Don Gallery, Shanghai, 2021); "Qinling Fengyukou" (Boers-Li Gallery, Beijing, 2017); "Breath, Space and Gravity" (Boers-Li Gallery, Beijing, 2015). His work has also been exhibited at: OCAT Xi’an (Xi’an, 2018); Shaanxi Provincial Art Museum (Xi’an, 2017); Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts (Nanjing, 2014).
