The grass is rough and inferior, but also overflows with a kind of tenacity.
In this exhibition, X, 2020, and Spring, 2020, are made by cutting steel square tubes using a hand-held chainsaw. The works released the inherent power of the steel, which was constrained due to its functional properties and achieves a critical state that is both tight and loose.
Low but Solid, 2020, places the withdrawn wire springs of a Simmons mattress in the same formation as they used to be inside the mattress. Here the wire springs have been flattened to a circular shape with the compression of the rebounding force.
Fierce and Indisputable Passion, 2019, is accomplished by heating the surface of a 140cm-long crowbar continuously by a welding torch. Due to the constant heating, the crowbar was deformed and bent to the limit.
Who Am I, 2019, is composed of 50 plaster casts of hands. The work questions if I choose to be who I am or the society portrayed who I am. Individuals are doomed to compromise and sacrifice in front of the community. The small weapon hidden in the palm is the last pride and perseverance of the self.
I do this and that. I gesticulate. I remain silent. I am stubborn. I am at the mercy of others.
