Artists: Bu Yunjun
MOCUBE is delighted to announce Bu Yunjun’s solo exhibition, “IMAEG”. This exhibition comprises of two series of artworks. The Black Series that captures the visual language on the cusp between light and object, and the other series consists of works of reproduced online images, whose information have been deconstructed and reassembled. As a variation of the English word, “Image”, the title of this exhibition provides clues for the artist’s own conceptions of visual information in his practice.
For the ground floor of the exhibition space, the artist presents recaptured images rendered through choosing an image off the Internet, photograph it, restructure and photograph it again. Because there is a sense of disconnect in the course of visual dissemination on the Internet, this kind of reset presents a degree of alienation. For which the artist has adopted a universal sensibility to navigate. Similar to music or poetry, when an art form is structurally shuffled, reassembled and added with new elements, it will have the potential to become a new form. Therefore, the artist’s way to realize it is by adopting a rather classical and poetic language in the realm of images.
The other series in this exhibition is engendered from the artist’s conception of the light. For the ambiguous relationship between light and objects, the artist attempts to search for a critical point, from which to record the environment of darkness until the moment light appears, where objects can be discovered. This critical point is also the point of inception for the artist. The process that follows includes countless random discoveries and arbitrary catches. In this series of works, Bu Yunjun presents a possibility of new perceptions through visual means and the various uncertainties it engenders.
This exhibition continues to May 14, 2018.
