Artists: Huang Zhoutuo
MOCUBE is pleased to announce the opening of the new exhibition, “Huang Zhoutuo- Tangible” on July 15th, and the exhibition will continue to September 3th, 2017.
In a manner of speaking, Huang Zhoutuo has converted the canvas into a solid container to hold all his strokes, both the steerable and the naturally formed, all retained on the tableau. Following the crossing clues, the painting leaps between objects and actions, driven by curiosity and intimately connected with the artist’s life. Everything is fluid, including the way he paints. Pictorial language is formed in repeated coloring and painting, with little to do with the abstract or the concrete, as it is all about traces which need to be steeped in time. Huang only tries to attenuate the conclusive aspect and adds to flexibility. Whether it is a painting that treats the object as human being or vice versa, he is more obsessed with defamiliarization after the forms are transformed into a painting. The inherent sense of ritual in the mundane world unfolds as the pencraft gets refined and the painting probes deeper.
Sometimes it freezes the moment of an action
But more often
It’s about the tangible world
An outstretched arm and a half stooped person
Close to a deserted flower basket
With the fruit waiting to become marmalade
Like color patches covering the chair
From one painting
leaping to another
Different forms alternate
Between the visible and the invisible
Be it reality or vision
In the representation
Illusion is hidden
To vest painting
With meaning.
